As you’re probably aware by now, Australia is battling the worst fire season they have seen in decades. 14.7 million acres have burned, takeing with it 1300 homes, 24 people (including many volunteer firefighters) and an estimated 500 Million animals.

In an effor to help aid volunteers and santuaries taking in injured and homeless animals my friend Sarah over at The Swaddle Company started sewing and sending bat blankets and joey pouches in late december. She and her team are now in full aid effort mode, coordinating the gathering and sending of crafted items, such as the blankets and joey pouches, as well as shipping items to Australia.

As I’ve posted on Instagram and Facebook, I am serving as a collection in hub in Boise if you want to volunteer to sew or donate materials. I will then cover the cost of shipping to Sarah and her team or directly to Australia. However, today I was told, due to smoke cover and the sheer volume of planes flying product and volunteers into Australia from mulitple countries, it’s become difficult to get the crafted items to the individual sanctuaries. Instead they are asking for the following: Cash Donations made directly to sanctuaries and supply hubs in Australia as well as Amazon orders shipped directly to larger Australian hubs that can then disperse needed food, medical supplies and water to individual sanctuaries.

If and when sewing efforts resume I will post instructions here on how you can contribute in that way.

I am not collecting donations directly but I am providing links to vetted sanctuaries and hubs to send donations to. I am also providing a list of that can be purchased on Amazon and sent directly to the indicated address, which is a large hub in Australia which will then distribute the goods where they are most needed.

Thank you so much for contributing however you can. Remember, you don’t have to give a lot for it to make a difference. If we all collectively give $5 or 5 minutes to spread the word it’s still more than if we do nothing.
